Achieving consistency and transparency in sentencing for environmental offences

Research Monograph 32

This monograph describes the development of a centralised database of sentences for crimes dealt with by the Land and Environment Court, how the system works and its benefits. It also revisits the legal debate about the utility of sentencing statistics, and sets out some of the benefits and limitations of statistics.
