  • From controversy to credibility: 20 years of the Judicial Commission of New South Wales (August 2008)
    In October 2007, the Judicial Commission celebrated 20 years of achievement in promoting excellence in judicial performance. To commemorate the Commission's 20th anniversary, the Commission published a booklet setting out a brief history of the Commission and its achievements over the past 20 years. Interviews with key figures involved in the Commission's controversial establishment shed light on how the Judicial Commission has gained national and international credibility as an accountability body and a leading provider of continuing judicial education and sentencing information.
  • Civil Trials Bench Book (August 2008)
    The Civil Trials Bench Book is designed to assist judicial officers with all aspects of managing and conducting civil trials. It includes information on statements of applicable legal principles, legislation, sample orders and checklists about various issues specific to civil trials.
  • Achieving consistency and transparency in sentencing for environmental offences, Research Monograph 32
    This monograph describes the development of a centralised database of sentences for crimes dealt with by the Land and Environment Court, how the system works and its benefits. It also revisits the legal debate about the utility of sentencing statistics, and sets out some of the benefits and limitations of statistics.
  • Sexual Assault Handbook (February 2008)
    The Sexual Assault Handbook is an online resource providing judicial officers with instant access to all the material they need to conduct sexual assault trials. It is designed to provide a one-stop practical and academic reference point for sexual offence proceedings. The Handbook provides a checklist of relevant procedural requirements, a practical guide to case management, a checklist of jury directions, resource materials for important directions, and sentencing resources.
