The Judicial Commission is pleased to announce the publication of the fourth in our e-resource series, A brief guide to statutory interpretation, published in pdf and html formats.

Statutory interpretation is a complex area of the law and this brief guide, which includes a two-page “ready reckoner”, aims to provide clear and concise guidance to judicial officers and others, in respect of the relevant principles, legislation and authorities, in the context of the criminal law. This publication is a guide only, and the principles, some of which are competing, should be applied to the circumstances of any particular case with care.
